Minimum road width for new subdivisions
New subdivision streets now must be at least 20 feet wide instead of 18, matching the fire code. It only applies to new roads, so existing narrow streets won't be forced to widen. Fire crews and emergency responders were the driving concern.
Road width standards
Councilman Piagentini pressed staff on 18-foot-wide roads carrying thousands of new subdivision homes — a safety hazard for fire trucks and oncoming traffic. The $250,000 study funding was reallocated after no consultants bid, and a fix is now folded into the two-year Land Development Code rewrite.
